I have been a member of Largs Sailing Club since 1986 when my husband Donald and three children started to sail, and we joined as family members. I helped with the catering for several major events that were run from John Street in the 1990's and continued doing this when the Club moved to Largs Yacht Haven in 1999. I ''volunteered' to join the committee for three years as Secretary in 2002 and I still hold this position.
Over the past year I have reduced the time spent in the Club and have concentrated mainly on being 'Secretary'.
Almost 30 members of the cruising group enjoyed a most interesting visit to Clyde Coastguard recently. It was very informative to learn what happens at the other end of the radio, and the coordination work they do in emergencies. It was also good to put faces to the voices at the other end!
As sailing convener, I am responsible for organising the club racing activities with the assistance of the sailing sub-committee. This involves writing the sailing instructions, organising people to help run the racing and making sure that things run OK.
LSC runs racing for members in both dinghies and keelboats on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons through the spring, summer and autumn. If you have any questions about how the racing is run, how to take part or what could be done to improve things then please let me know.
