The annual RYA Scotland Winter Championships, held over the weekend of December 9/10th, lived up to their name, with racing held against the spectacular backdrop of snow-covered Arran. Races were sprint format for all the junior and youth pathway classes. Many thanks to all the volunteers who contributed to the success of the weekend!
Scottish dinghy sailors across twenty four dinghy classes took part in the RYA Scotland Champion of Champions Trophy at Largs SC over the weekend of 21-22 October. This unique event sees the Scottish Champions from quite widely different classes of boat compete against each other under the Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system.
The gusty east wind on Saturday, and the stiff NW'ly on Sunday, gave the race committee and competitors challenging conditions, but 4 races were completed.
The weekend kicked off in fine style with a fund raising ceilidh for the RNLI, headed up by the MacFadyen Sisters. Over £1100 was raised for this great charity, from admissions, raffle, and coin rolling. Thanks everyone!! This was followed on Saturday afternoon by the Ginfest, when numbers of speciality gin distillers offered the opportunity to sample their wares.
The Saturday evening featured a band night, and then there was the Regatta Week Dinner the following Friday, when LSC member Tom Thurlow gave his experience of mark laying at the recent America's Cup event in Bermuda.
Full report on Largs Regatta Week, 26th Aug - 3rd Sept - great weather for racing, great programme of social events! Lots of young sailors competing in the midweek races, updates on the cruising group, forthcoming social events at the club, FIRE at the marina - and so on!
This open event for RS400, Skiffs and Cats, with racing held over two days on windward-leeward courses, had great weather on the Saturday for the first races - then grey and windy on the Sunday! Congratulations to the Robertsons from Royal Forth who took the overall first. Thanks to Martin Latimer and Mark Edwards for the photographs, and all who contributed to the weekend, afloat and ashore.
Come along to our America's Cup dinner on Friday evening, when you will hear some of the inside stories of the event from those who were there. Tickets £15 from LYH reception, or the bar at the club. All welcome!
