This Saturday sees the annual Viking Festival come to a climax with the battle re-enactment (19:30), bonfire and fireworks (21:00) at the Pencil. Come and watch from our balcony - great view! Also food available - please book with Steven on 01475 670022.
Lots of other events - the Viking Village is also on the north promenade, the funfair is in the seafront car park, aerobatic displays on Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m., food and craft fayre, owl magic etc - for full details see http://www.largsvikingfestival.com/, and the attached pdf file.
It's been a super week of racing with entries up on recent years - 70 dinghies for the Cumbraes Weekend and 39 racing in the 100 Guineas. A surge of Junior members racing mid week really added to the numbers, also the competition - a big thanks to the LSTA for all the coaching they put in over the summer. Many happy faces and smiles from the prize winners! A big big thanks for all the volunteers either afloat or ashore - 80+ at the latest count. Without their support LRW would not happen.
Largs Regatta Week is in full swing, starting with a weekend of contrasting weather - near flat calm on Saturday, with most fleets only completing one (very slow!) race, and Sunday's howling easterly! The dinghies didn't race, and those keelboats who ventured out in near survival conditions had a pretty wild passage around Cumbrae. See some great photographs from Marc Turner and others on the LSC Facebook page.
A lot of marks now ready to be placed for what is looking like great weekend of racing at the Cumbraes Regatta - now only 2 days away. Hope you have entered, but do not worry as a small donation to the RNLI will still let you enter. The workparty on Tuesday morning from LSC and FYC did a lot of heavy lifting - 20 boxes of chain and anchors, also blowing up all these buoys. Thanks everyone.
Largs Sailing Club is inviting applications for the position of Club Steward. Primary duties are to manage the bar and provide bar meals for our members. The position would suit those who have experience in bar work and working with the supply chain. Basic catering experience is also required. Applications are invited from individuals or there is a potential for a job share. Annualised hours are 34/ week with more hours in the sailing season (April/Sept) and much shorter hours at other times.
The Cumbraes Weekend is just over 4 days away - August 22nd and 23rd 2015. We are now finalising the weekend and the volunteers we need.
We would particularly like to get some more members to assist in Slip duties - launching/recovery, trolley placement, tally management, etc. Physical dexterity varies from needing to be reasonably agile for launching, to purely clerical when it comes to tally management.
The timing - about 10.30 to 17.00 on Saturday, and 10.00 to 15.00 on Sunday, but any part of that appreciated - one day, half day, etc.
Windward Leeward racing on the Big course for the Etchells
Sat 22nd Aug 2015 to Sun 23rd Aug 2015
The Etchells class are again keen to come to Largs again, this year they will be holding the 2015 Clyde Etchells class championship as part of the Cumbraes weekend. In addition to the Windward Leeward races on 22nd August, the regatta committee will be running more on Sunday 23rd August. Boats can be towed to and from Largs, and tows will be available to help get in and out of the Yacht Haven.
With the number of dinghies and keelboats expected to enter the socials on Saturday night are expected to be great.
