Event Description:
Event Date:
The Musto Skiff National Championships were held at Largs Sailing Club from Thursday 5 Sept to Sunday 8 September. 36 competitors from all over the UK including 3 South African entrants.
The strong winds on on Thursday and Friday made for exciting sailing testing the sailors abilities to the full. After 5 races, Scots Jamie Hilton from Aberdeen and Largs sailor Jono Shelley held the top 2 places.
On Saturday, light winds caused long delays with racing not starting until late afternoon when 2 races were completed. Jamie Hilton maintained his lead, from Ian Turnbull (Ullswater Sailing Club) with Jono Shelley down to 3rd.
Sunday’s wind was also very light and after the final 2 races Jamie Hilton was crowned National Champion, Andy Tarboton from South Africa 2nd with Dan Vincent from Stokes Bay 3rd. Best Scottish sailors were Fynn Sterritt from Loch Morlich ( 5th) and Jono Shelley from Largs.(7th). Fynn has just returned from Japan after winning gold medal in the 49er class world championships.
Many thanks to the volunteers from Largs SC on the Committee, safety, and mark laying boats, together with on shore helpers in the clubhouse and on the club slip.
