Please meet in the clubhouse at 0930 sharp on the day when the weekend cruise starts for the cruise briefing. Any changes to this arrangement will be posted on the LSC website cruising section notice board.

If the first day of any 2 day cruise has to be postponed for weather reasons the participants, will consider an alternative cruise on the second day. Similarly, if a 1- day cruise has to be postponed for weather reasons, the attendees will consider an alternative cruise for the next day (Sunday)

If you are not a boat owner but are keen to take part or simply sample what cruising in company is all about, please add your name, contact details and availability to the "crew" list posted on the cruising section of the club notice board. Subject to available places, every effort will be made to ensure you can take part and enjoy the cruising in company experience!

To join one of the Extended Cruises In Company please put your name and contact details on the list on the notice board in the clubhouse. This will help to confirm likely participants and also enable the pre-cruise meeting and briefing to be organized prior to departure. For a log of the 2008 Western Isle Cruise to Tobermory -see here highlights how flexible the extended cruise program can be to suit your and others sailing plans.

*Cruise Coordinator to be appointed for each event. (Updated list on club notice board)

Cruising Section Lists of persons available for crewing.

It has come to our attention that on certain occasions we are still unable to attract crews to fully man up keel boats for some of our cruising events.

We are also aware that there are some members, or family member's, who would like to experience Keel Boat Sailing but do not have the means or opportunity.

To this end we would like to open the list of persons available for crewing to give any member, or family member, the opportunity to sail with us.

Experience is not essential, just a good sense of humour, a sleeping bag for weekend or longer events and a willingness to muck in and learn from other crew members.

If you are interested please enter your name and contact number on the supplementary crewing list posted on the club notice and a cruising section representative will make contact with you.

ROTHESAY CRUISE UPDATE

This event turned out to be the best cruising event of the season to date.

Winds were fresh throughout which made for first class sailing and the Jazz festival turned out to be well worth a visit.

Five boats left Largs at 1030 on Saturday morning” Nimbus” being the lead boat followed by “Corshyecan”, “Carpe Diem,” “Claymore,” and “Mallie”.

Initial reports from” Summer Wine” (alongside Rothesay the previous day) indicated that space was tight for berthing.

On arrival at Rothesay we were lucky all boats managed to find a berth.

On Saturday afternoon we all made our way to a local pub at” Port Banatyne “ where we enjoyed a light refreshment in the

Beer Garden.

On the Saturday night all attended various Jazz events in the town some which proved to be excellent.

On Sunday we departed in various directions as some members took the benefit of an extra days cruising.

The new harbour proved to be an excellent place to park. Space within the harbour is tight and can test seamanship skills

manoeuvring in and out. The cost of an overnight stay for a 30’ boat is £15.50 which includes electrical hook up.

Cruising Section meet the Largs RNLI inshore rescue boat.

A fascinating talk from Largs RNLI with demonstration, followed by air-sea rescue from Stuart Anderson, a former Royal Navy helicopter pilot, had our best attendance yet, with 45 people

Sail cloth, Design and Manufacture

The recent Winter Talk organised by the Cruising Group saw 30 or so Club Members taken through the intricacies of sail cloth, design and manufacture by John Highcock of Saturn Sails. It ended with several headsails and mainsails of different materials and complexity spread across the floor of John's loft, illustrating all the points he had been making.

Many thanks to John for a very interesting and informative afternoon.
